چکیده

Previous approaches to supporting video on packet-switched networks include deterministic service, statistical service, predicted service , and feedback-based schemes. These schemes represent diierent trade-oos in quality of service (QOS), achievable network utilization, and method of dealing with overload. In this paper, we propose a new service that attempts to strike an eecient balance with the above tradeoos. The approach is based on deterministic guarantees with client controlled rene-gotiation of QOS parameters and graceful adaptation during overload periods. We evaluate the scheme using two traces of MPEG-compressed video and show that, even with simple renegotiation polices and relatively low renegotiation frequencies, high network utilization in the range of 50% to 80% can be achieved. For traac that is bursty over long intervals , this represents a 100% to 150% improvement in network utilization compared to deterministic service. Compared to statistical and predicted service, our approach allows more graceful and client-controlled QOS degradation during overload period.

A Virtual Queue Based Scheme To Support Real-Time Renegotiated VBR Video Streaming

Variable bit rate (VBR) video traffic poses a unique challenge on network resource allocation and management for future packet networks. RED-VBR, a renegotiated deterministic VBR scheme, is a well-known approach proposed to support delay-sensitive VBR video traffic. However, the original RED-VBR suffers some limitations, such as the difficulty of dimensioning of D-BIND traffic descriptors for r...

One of the most important traffic types in future packet-switched networks i s high-bandwidth, variable-bitrate (VBR) video. Since video is a delay-sensitive media, the network mus t allocate resources to maintain quality-ofservice (QoS) guarantees on throughput, delay, and delay jitter to video connections. A key component of resource allocation is the traffic characterization of video sources...

The Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks

Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...
